Bongmusa Mthembu wants to lead South Africa to the top title

Brasov City is hosting the first world athletics championship ever organized in Romania! The 50KM World Running Championship takes place on September 1, 2019 in the town beneath Tâmpa.
Organized by IAU (International Organization of Ultra-running), together with the Romanian Federation of Athletics and with the support of Ministry of Youth and Sport, Brasov City Hall and Braşov County Council, the 50KM World Running Championship will bring to Brașov the strongest Ultra-runners of the moment.

Athletes from 30 countries representing all continents will arrive at this championship, and before the competition starts, the Romanian Athletics Federation will introduce you the most famous athletes who will run through the streets of Brașov.

Bongmusa Mthembu is the leader of the South African team and announces that his team is coming with great expectations to the 50KM World Championship in Brașov.
A three-time winner of the Comrades Ultra Marathon, which runs every year between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg, Bongmusa Mthembu is aiming for a great result in Romania, along with his colleagues.
At 36, Bongmusa Mthembu can boast a time of 3:03:36 in the 50 KM race in Durban (South Africa), 2010, and a time of 6:24:06 in the 100 KM race at Los Alcázares (Spain), in 2016.

In the first half of this year, Bongmusa Mthembu took 1st place at the Cape Town 56 KM Ultra-Marathon (April) and 2nd place at the Comrades 87 KM Ultra-Marathon (June).
In addition to Bongmusa Mthembu, the South African men’s team competing in Brașov will also feature David Gatebe, Edward Mothibe, Lungile Gongqa, Charles Tjiane and Joseph Manyedi.

The 50KM World Running Championship takes place on September 1, 2019 in the city beneath Tâmpa and is organized by the IAU (International Ultra-Running Organization), together with the Romanian Athletics Federation, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sport and of the City Hall of Brașov and is co-financed by the Brașov County Council.
